What is the Queen Anne's County Arts Council?
The QACAC was founded in 1977 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to bring art and cultural events to Queen Anne's County. Its mission and purpose is to promote, expand and sustain the arts in Queen Anne's County. The Arts Council is composed of a Board of Directors who are volunteers, each serving a term of two years. Daily operations are managed by the executive director and administrative staff. Funding for the QACAC comes primarily from the following sources: The Centre for the Arts is used for performances, educational activities, special events, public and private meetings, and receptions. The Centre is located at 206 South Commerce Street in Centreville, Maryland.

What are the Art Council's major activities?
In accordance with its mission of promoting, expanding and sustaining the arts, the Arts Council has developed a variety of initiatives including:

Board member Kathy Kowalski with member and patron Anneliese Hoffmann at the 2009 annual dinner.

  • Thursdays in the Park free performances take place throughout the county from June through August
  • "Heck With the Malls!" a fun-filled alternative to holiday shopping which showcases area artists and artisans
  • Classes in the Visual Arts, Music, Movement, Writing and Marketing
  • "Members' Best" quarterly art exhibits on display in area business locations
  • Artist profiles - assistance to groups and individuals looking for entertainers
  • Annual fund-raising events, including concerts, plays and exhibits
  • Promotion and publication of area arts events via a monthly e-newsletter
  • Professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers of community organizations, including an arts funding and programming resource library

    • Two $1,000 high school senior scholarship awards awarded annually
    • The Clara Ann Simmons Literary Scholarship Award
    • Grant awards to county organizations, associations, and schools for arts related programming

How can I find out about Arts Council activities and programs?
Program and class schedules, event calendars, grant applications and directives and area arts related activities and performance information are available in our office. If you are interested in being placed on our mailing list, call us at 410-758-2520 or email at questions@arts4u.info.

We encourage artists, residents, and organizations to submit grant proposals for beginning a new arts venture, or for expanding an existing activity. Promotional, managerial and financial support is available. Contact the QACAC for assistance. Instructors interested in presenting arts related workshops or classes are asked to submit a proposal in writing to:

How Do I Become a Member?

Membership:
Members are placed on our mailing list and will receive advance notification of classes, special events such as concerts, plays and exhibits and our Annual Dinner held in May. Email notifications are also available to interested members. Members receive discounts on certain classes and programs as well as merchandise and services offered by participating businesses.
