Develop skills and gain a better understanding of the use of your digital single lens reflex (SLR) camera. The class will cover camera characteristics, settings, features and operation; lens selection, auto-focusing, exposure control, the histogram, filters, WB selections, mode decisions (PASM and RAW/JPG), storage and file-organizing software, support equipment and much more. Students will enjoy interactive discussions and work on problem-solving. You’ll get a view of all aspects of digital photography in slide presentations and handout notebooks. Basic familiarity with your camera, photography and personal computers will be helpful. Bring your camera and its manual.

Learn editing techniques to improve and restore photographs and scanned prints or slides using Adobe Photoshop Elements (v.3 v.6). The use of this popular program is explained by live demonstrations. See how to use the workspace, its many tools, palettes and filters; how to use layers for adjustments, dust/spot removal, compositing; how to resize for printing and the Web and how to make better prints.
Materials: laptop optional.
